Bulgaria and Moldova announce updated October natural gas prices
Energy regulators in Bulgaria and Moldova have announced updated natural gas prices for October.
In Bulgaria, the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) set the price of natural gas at 44.09 euro/MWh, excluding access, transmission, excise, and VAT. This represents a 5.99% increase compared to September. KEVR rejected a higher requested price from Bulgargaz, citing the need to keep costs favorable for consumers as gas accounts for over 70% of household heating costs.
In Moldova, Energocom estimates the purchase price for October at approximately 76.35 euro/MWh. This figure is based on the TTF Front Month index and includes a margin for external suppliers. While the purchase price is slightly lower than the figure used by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) for the fourth quarter, household consumers will see a tariff increase. Starting October 1, residential consumers will pay 26.14 lei per cubic meter, a roughly 28.8% increase from the previous rate.
Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu addressed public concerns regarding gas costs, stating that Eurostat data shows Moldova's gas prices for households are approximately 23% below the European Union average, placing the country 17th out of 30 surveyed European nations.
