Bulgaria's former deputy PM calls for summoning Iran's ambassador over US aircraft at Bezmer
Former Bulgarian deputy prime minister and former interior minister Cvetlin Yovchev urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Iranian ambassador and demand an explanation after Iran warned Sofia against allowing US Air Force planes to operate from Bezmer Air Base. Iran said that permitting the flights could make Bulgaria an accomplice in what it called "aggression and war crimes" against Tehran.
Yovchev called the government's stance "extremely correct", citing alliance obligations and moral considerations. He said there is no evidence of a proxy network in Bulgaria and assessed the risk of a direct Iranian attack as minimal, noting that Bulgaria is not an attractive target.
