Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev faces scrutiny over Peevski flight data and personal assets

Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev handed a parliamentary report from the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) that details operational investigations into Delian Peevski’s travel. The document contains reservation and flight information from early 2023 to June 2026, showing 227 flights – over 170 charter – valued at about €1.8 million and naming 81 persons linked to the trips. DPS deputy Hamid Hamid disputes the figures, saying the report covers a much shorter period, lists only 75 flights, notes that Peevski did not travel, and identifies fewer than ten associated individuals.

In a separate disclosure, Demerdzhiev’s asset declaration lists 15 properties across Plovdiv, nearby villages and a motorboat, together with cash and bank deposits exceeding 540,000 leva. The holdings are compared with those of his predecessor Boyko Rashkov, who declared 19 properties. Opposition parties allege the minister misled parliament and conducted investigations without prosecutor notification, and they plan to file formal complaints. The interior ministry has not issued a public comment.
