Bulgaria's Ivan Angelov denies fines for homemade rakia
Ivan Angelov, Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Parliament, has addressed public concerns regarding proposed regulations on homemade rakia. He clarified that the government's intentions are aimed at curbing speculation and illegal trade rather than penalizing traditional domestic production for personal use or gifts.
Angelov dismissed claims that citizens would face massive fines, such as 1,000 euros, for possessing undocumented bottles of homemade spirits in their homes. He emphasized that serious sanctions would instead target individuals holding large quantities of undocumented alcohol intended for illegal resale. He stated that the role of the state should be to provide predictability and stability for both citizens and businesses rather than creating unnecessary tension.
Additionally, Angelov commented on international energy matters, noting that while US President Donald Trump's calls for European nations to release diesel from reserves should be considered, specific actions regarding Bulgaria's reserves require more data. He noted that fuel prices in Bulgaria remain among the lowest in Europe despite global volatility.
