Bulgaria's Social Minister Efremova announces minimum wage rise and insurance reforms

Minister of Labour and Social Policy Nataliya Efremova said the current minimum wage of €620.20 will not stay at that level in 2027 and is expected to increase. The government also plans to raise the minimum monthly insured income for self‑employed persons to €620.20 and the maximum to €2 300, effective 1 August 2026.

From the same date, state employees will begin contributing a personal share to their social‑security payments. The employer‑employee contribution split will be 80 % / 20 % until 31 December 2026 and will shift to the standard 60 % / 40 % from 1 January 2027. Reforms to 4‑hour part‑time contracts will separate labour and insurance seniority, aiming to protect workers’ rights and curb the gray economy. Efremova stressed that the budget deficit will not be covered by tax hikes and mentioned preparation of an additional stimulus for mothers. The budget also sets the minimum pension at €347.51 and child‑care allowance at €398.81 for 2026.
