Bulgaria's Ministry of Innovation adopts AI for daily operations

Ivan Vasilev, the Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation, announced at the Sofia Economic Forum that employees of his ministry are already utilizing artificial intelligence in their daily activities. Vasilev urged other state institutions to follow this example to bridge the technological gap between the public sector and private companies.

He emphasized that digitalization is essential for economic productivity, particularly as Bulgaria faces a shrinking working-age population. By improving labor productivity through technology, the state can support economic growth despite demographic shifts.

The Minister also outlined ambitions for e-government, aiming to make administration ‘invisible’ to citizens and businesses. Key upcoming milestones include the introduction of a digital identity and a digital wallet by the end of the year.
