Bulgaria and Romania overhaul utility tariffs on 1 July 2026
On 1 July 2026 Bulgaria’s Energy and Water Regulation Commission (KEVR) set the regulated natural‑gas price at €37.70 /MWh, about 5.8 % higher than June but still below international futures. The same regulator approved a 2.99 % rise in household electricity tariffs and a 4.58 % increase for heating services, with the steepest gains in Sofia and Pleven and the smallest in Vratsa.
In Romania, the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) lowered the weighted average gas‑distribution tariff by 7.1 %, from 58.47 lei/MWh to 54.32 lei/MWh, affecting 27 licensed distributors. The cut reflects reduced costs for the two main distributors, Distrigaz Sud Reţele and Delgaz Grid, which together handle about 90 % of national volumes.
Additional regulatory changes take effect in Bulgaria on the same date, including a €3 per‑parcel customs fee for online orders from outside the EU, new fees for exchanging levs into euros at post offices, a 7.8 % pension increase, and the application of EU crypto‑asset rules that restrict services to licensed firms.
