Bulgaria's tax agency finds 622 violations in over 2,000 inspections

Since the launch of a summer control campaign on 29 June, Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA) has carried out more than 2,000 inspections of restaurants and other establishments across the country. The inspections have uncovered a total of 622 tax‑related violations, including 19 breaches identified in 11 night‑time venues in central Sofia.

The most common infractions are failure to issue cash receipts, discrepancies in cash‑register balances, missing mandatory receipt details and incorrect reporting of turnover. Penalties range from fines of up to €2,000 for a first offence, doubled for repeat offences, to fines of up to €10,000 for cash‑shortage cases that suggest tax evasion, and can even lead to the sealing of the premises. The NRA said the campaign will continue through the tourist season and that tax controls will remain ongoing.
