Bulgaria's tax agency issues 1,500 fines for unjustified price hikes

The National Revenue Agency (NAP) said that since the start of the year it has issued 1,500 acts for unjustified price increases, resulting in about 800 penalty orders worth €1.7 million. Director Anna Mitova announced the figures during a night‑time inspection in Plovdiv.

In the past two days inspectors checked 36 premises in Plovdiv’s Kapana district, finding 10 violations, mainly the failure to issue cash receipts and discrepancies in cash registers. As part of the summer control campaign, 200 outlets in Plovdiv have been inspected over the last two weeks, uncovering roughly 70 breaches, while 1,000 establishments on the Black Sea coast saw 330 violations.

A nightclub on the southern coast was sealed after it was found to have issued cash receipts only twice in a year. Inspectors from the Fiscal Control Directorate are also reviewing documentation from about 400 establishments to compare seasonal pricing and may conduct secret‑shop purchases; establishments that do not provide receipts are issued an act.
