Bulgaria's tax agency launches midnight raid on Plovdiv's Kapana venues

The National Revenue Agency (NRA) conducted a large-scale midnight operation in Plovdiv, concentrating on the popular Kapana art district. Over a 48‑hour period, tax inspectors examined 36 night‑time bars, clubs and restaurants, recording ten serious breaches such as failure to issue fiscal receipts and discrepancies between cash registers and actual cash.

The raid is part of a broader summer‑time campaign that has inspected about 200 commercial premises in the city over the past two weeks, uncovering roughly 70 infractions related to tax and employment regulations. Penalties for missing receipts range from 100 to 2,000 lev, with higher fines and possible closure for establishments lacking fiscal devices. The NRA also continues strict monitoring of price changes following Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro.
