British Columbia wildfires trigger expanded evacuation orders FAST-MOVING

Wildfires in British Columbia's Big Bar complex have prompted expanded evacuation orders and alerts. The Pear Lake wildfire, estimated at 162,326 hectares, has led the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District to issue orders for over 100 properties in the Pavilion Lake and Marble Canyon areas. Additionally, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued orders for properties along Highway 99.

The French Bar Creek wildfire, covering approximately 54,892 hectares, has also seen its evacuation order expanded by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District to include a total of 12 properties. BC Wildfire Service crews are managing both fires, with 22 helicopters currently assigned to the Big Bar complex. Efforts include structure protection, machine guarding, and planned ignition operations to contain the flames. Highway 99 remains open, but drivers are prohibited from stopping and should be prepared for sudden closures.
