Bulog secures food reserves for East Nusa Tenggara earthquake relief
Indonesia's state logistics agency, Bulog, has confirmed that food reserves in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) are sufficient to support earthquake relief efforts. President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani stated that the province holds between 35,000 and 37,000 metric tons of rice to meet immediate needs.
To overcome damaged infrastructure and landslides, Bulog is implementing a multi-layered distribution strategy. This includes using motorcycles to reach isolated areas where four-wheeled vehicles cannot pass, and coordinating with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) for air and sea transport. Additionally, 10 tons of rice reserves have been pre-positioned at both the airport and seaport in Kupang to ensure rapid deployment.
Local branch offices have been instructed to maintain at least 20 metric tons of rice for immediate dispatch, and each affected area is slated to receive 1,000 liters of subsidized cooking oil. To prevent logistical bottlenecks, Bulog is also preparing backup supplies from West Nusa Tenggara and South Sulawesi.
