Bulovka Hospital corruption case: Businessman reaches plea deal

New developments have emerged in a corruption investigation involving the Bulovka University Hospital regarding a 160 million CZK tender for linear accelerators. Police allege the tender conditions were rigged to ensure the contract was awarded to Elekta Services.

Businessman Pavel Tobiáš, a former executive of Elekta Services, has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. The deal includes a five-year suspended sentence, a 5 million CZK fine, and a ten-year ban from conducting business. His company, TPR-Stars, and Elekta Services are also involved in the legal proceedings; the latter is set to pay an 18 million CZK fine. Investigators claim up to 10 million CZK was earmarked for bribery in connection with the tender.

The case also involves five other defendants, including former ODS Member of Parliament Marek Šnajdr and former hospital director Andrea Vrbovská. While Tobiáš has admitted to the criminal activity as part of the agreement, both Šnajdr and Vrbovská deny any wrongdoing. Specifically, Šnajdr is accused of accepting a 50,000 CZK bribe.
