Bulqizë: 7-year-old girl found dead after Drin River surge

The body of a 7-year-old girl has been recovered after she was swept away by the Drin River in the Gjorica area of Bulqizë. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon while the child and four other family members were bathing in the river.

Preliminary reports suggest that the river level rose suddenly, potentially due to the opening of gates at the Dibër e Madhe hydroelectric plant. This surge in water flow reportedly swept away five relatives, including an uncle, two nephews, and two nieces. While rescue operations managed to save four individuals, the young girl remained missing until her body was located near the Drin bridge.

Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the sudden rise in water levels to determine responsibility.
