Bundaberg SES named Queensland unit of the year

The Bundaberg State Emergency Service (SES) has been named Queensland’s unit of the year at the annual SES State Awards held in Brisbane. The 133-member unit was recognized for its significant contributions to regional flood preparedness and response in the Wide Bay area.

During the last financial year, the Bundaberg unit dedicated 5,025 operational hours and responded to 788 calls for help. The unit implemented several developmental initiatives, including a locally led five-month Recruitment and Mentoring Pilot Program, and conducted specialized training in land search, storm damage, and heights safety to prepare for upcoming high-risk weather seasons.

The state-wide awards ceremony marked the conclusion of SES Week, celebrating the efforts of more than 5,500 members across Queensland. Collectively, volunteers across the state dedicated over 127,000 operational hours during the previous financial year.
