Bundesnachrichtendienst marks 70 years with expansion and public outreach
The German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is engaging in public outreach and celebrating its 70th anniversary through various regional activities.
In Bremen, the BND utilized the German Unity Day citizen festival to promote itself as an employer. The agency used James Bond-themed marketing, including armored vehicles with ‘007’ license plates and branded merchandise such as T-shirts and flip-flops, to attract attention from the expected 400,000 visitors.
Simultaneously, the agency marked its 70-year milestone with a commemorative event in Pullach. BND President Martin Jäger announced plans to expand the Pullach site into a second official headquarters, emphasizing its role as a strategic hub for technical procurement, IT, research, and innovation. Bavarian Minister of Justice Josef Schmid attended the event, noting the necessity for intelligence services to modernize and strengthen their capabilities to defend democratic society against emerging threats.
