Bundestag to implement digital attendance tracking from October 1
The German Bundestag is transitioning to a digital attendance recording system known as DiAnE. Starting October 1, members of parliament will no longer use paper lists to document their presence at sessions.
Bundestag President Julia Klöckner announced that the new system will utilize chip-enabled ID cards, which members can use at time-tracking terminals located at various entrances. This shift is expected to save approximately 55,000 sheets of paper and 1,000 administrative hours every year.
Attendance documentation also carries financial implications under the Members of Parliament Act. Failure to record attendance results in a 200 Euro deduction from the expense allowance, while failing to both record attendance and provide an excuse leads to a 300 Euro deduction. Members will be able to report reasons for absence through an online portal.
