Bundeswehr conducts NATO troop movement exercise in Hamburg

The Bundeswehr has launched ‘Red Storm Charlie’, a three-day civil-military exercise in Hamburg designed to rehearse the reception and movement of NATO troops and equipment toward the alliance’s eastern flank. Running from September 24 to 26, the drill involves approximately 500 soldiers and participants from roughly 60 civilian organizations, including police, firefighters, and logistics companies.

The exercise is based on a fictional scenario involving political tensions near the borders of the Baltic states. It tests the coordination between military and civilian authorities as Germany prepares to act as a logistical hub. Key components include the movement of approximately 70 military vehicles and helicopters via roads, motorways, and the port.

Participants are simulating various emergency scenarios, such as drone attacks on military convoys, power outages, chemical accidents, and disruptions to military supply trains. The drills also include practicing medical responses for large numbers of wounded individuals and establishing alternative medical facilities.
