Bundeswehr conducts Red Storm Charlie military exercise in Hamburg

The Bundeswehr has conducted Red Storm Charlie, the largest military exercise in its history, in Hamburg. The three-day operation simulated a Russian attack on NATO territory, focusing on the logistical challenges of moving troops and equipment to the alliance's eastern flank.

The exercise is a practical test of the highly classified Germany Operational Plan. This document designates Germany as a central logistical hub, detailing specific ports and routes for the transit of hundreds of thousands of NATO soldiers and heavy equipment. During the simulation, participants practiced navigating scenarios involving sabotage and public demonstrations.

According to Bundeswehr official Marcel Bohnert, the plan accounts for the potential movement of 800,000 soldiers and 200,000 vehicles through Germany within a six-month period. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has noted that the threat from Moscow is becoming increasingly concrete, prompting these heightened readiness measures.
