Bundeswehr to provide air transport for UN mission in Haiti
The German Bundeswehr will provide air transport capabilities to support a United Nations mission in Haiti. According to the German Federal Ministry of Defence, these resources will be deployed within the coming weeks to assist in the transport of equipment and materials.
The mission aims to combat criminal gangs that currently control approximately 90 percent of Haiti. The Bundeswehr's support is intended to assist nations providing troops for the UN mission, including Kenya, Chad, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Guatemala, and Ivory Coast. This contribution is described as a way to help stabilize the security situation during a decisive phase of the mission's buildup.
