Bungie delays Marathon update and ends seasonal schedule
Bungie has announced a major shift in the development strategy for its extraction shooter, Marathon. The studio is moving away from a strict seasonal release schedule to allow developers more flexibility to build, test, and refine content.
As part of this change, the large update originally scheduled for September 22 has been postponed to December 8. This update, titled ‘Symbiosis’, will include a permanent PvE mode, a refreshed Perimeter zone, a new Runner shell, a social space with a firing range, and an experimental Team Deathmatch mode.
A smaller update is scheduled for October 6, which will include a reset of player progression and the in-game economy, along with various quality-of-life improvements and the return of the ‘Vault Breaker’ event. Bungie stated that these changes aim to address community feedback regarding the need for more depth, variety, and stronger long-term progression.
