Buñol prepares for La Tomatina 2026 following successful children's festival
The 12th edition of the Tomatina Infantil in Buñol recently concluded, featuring over 1,000 children aged 4 to 14 participating in a festive battle using 5,000 kilograms of tomatoes. The event attracted families from various nations, including the United Kingdom, United States, Japan, China, India, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
This children's event serves as a precursor to the main La Tomatina festival, scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The primary celebration expects up to 22,000 participants and will utilize approximately 120,000 kilograms of tomatoes. The main event follows traditional rituals, such as the 'palo jabón' where participants attempt to climb a greased pole to reach a ham.
For the first time in its history, RTVE will provide live coverage of the main festival through a special program titled 'La Tomatina 360'. The broadcast will feature an extensive technical deployment, including 17 cameras, a drone, and multiple live reporting points to capture the event for international media.
