BUPi land registration free period ends September 30

The deadline for free property georeferencing through the Balcão Único do Prédio (BUPi) system is approaching on September 30. Following a decree-law extension, property owners in municipalities without a formal land registry can register rural or mixed properties under 50 hectares without charge until this date.

In mainland Portugal, 43% of properties (3,633,783 matrices) have been identified, covering 46% of the total area in relevant municipalities. Leading in property identification is Miranda do Douro, while São João da Pesqueira leads in terms of total area covered.

In the Madeira region, the identification rate for properties stands at 12% of the 267,867 properties registered with the Tax Authority, though this accounts for 37% of the total land area across the five affected municipalities. Ponta do Sol has the highest percentage of identified properties at 48%, whereas Porto Moniz has identified the largest portion of its land area at 57%.
