Burdur prosecutors investigate marriage proposal fireworks display

Authorities in Burdur, Turkey, have launched an investigation into an individual identified as Ö. T. following a controversial marriage proposal celebration. On September 27, the individual and a group of friends used torches and fireworks on Eski Adliye Street in the Konak neighborhood.

The display, which reportedly included the phrase “I will burn Burdur the day I come to ask for your hand,” caused significant smoke that obscured visibility on the street. Following the circulation of video footage on social media, the Burdur Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation for the crime of “intentionally endangering public safety.”

Under Article 170 of the Turkish Penal Code, the crime involves using explosives or firearms in a manner that creates a danger to life, health, or property. Legal experts note that the crime is established by the creation of danger itself, regardless of whether actual damage occurs.
