Bureau of Energy Efficiency promotes electric cooking in India

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, hosted the ‘Commercial Induction Cooking Showcase and Chef Challenge’ in New Delhi to promote the adoption of energy-efficient electric cooking in commercial and institutional kitchens.

Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, identified energy security as a primary driver for transitioning from Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to electric cooking. He noted that rising LPG prices and global conflicts make the shift both a strategic and operational necessity. Agarwal highlighted that existing government schemes, such as Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, provide a foundation for this transition.

Krushna Chandra Panigrahy, Director General of the BEE, emphasized that the energy transition involves both cleaner sources and increased efficiency. To support the industry, the BEE is inviting manufacturers, distributors, and solution providers to register for the ‘Go Electric Commercial Electric Cooking Vendor Directory’.
