Bureau of Internal Revenue introduces tax reforms and deadline extensions
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is implementing several reforms to simplify tax compliance and provide relief to specific groups. Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza announced a one-time tax abatement program for micro taxpayers with gross annual sales of up to P3 million and total basic tax liabilities or penalties not exceeding P80,000 per taxable year.
To modernize services, the BIR is expanding its digital taxpayer portal, which allows users to monitor registration, track payments, and receive automated filing reminders. While currently being tested with the Large Taxpayers Service, the nationwide rollout for other taxpayers is expected to begin next month.
Additionally, the BIR has extended statutory tax deadlines to August 17 for taxpayers in regions affected by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon. This extension covers 58 offices across Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, Northern Luzon, and Central Luzon, allowing affected individuals to meet filing and payment requirements without penalties.
