Burgas cosmetic salon hidden camera investigation remains unresolved

An investigation into the use of hidden cameras at laser hair removal salons in Burgas, Bulgaria, remains unresolved nine months after more than 100 women filed complaints. The recordings, which captured clients without their knowledge, were reportedly made starting in 2024.

Authorities are currently investigating financial flows both within the country and to third countries, including the potential use of cryptocurrency for payments related to the recordings. However, lawyer Rosen Diev noted a lack of official information from the prosecution and the Ministry of Interior, stating that the investigation is currently being conducted against an unknown perpetrator.

Two salons were identified as having used cameras. One salon has ceased operations, potentially due to owners changing business names to avoid association with the scandal, while the other reportedly continues to operate. Because no specific individuals have been charged, victims are currently unable to pursue civil claims for monetary damages. If no perpetrators are identified, the investigation could theoretically be terminated.
