Burgas emerges as favorite to host Eurovision 2027
The Bulgarian National Television (BNT) is expected to officially announce the host city for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest on Wednesday, August 12. The decision follows the victory of Dara, which earned Bulgaria the right to organize the 2027 event.
The selection process has narrowed down to two finalists: the capital, Sofia, and the coastal city of Burgas. While Sofia was initially considered the frontrunner due to its established infrastructure and connectivity, Burgas has emerged as a strong favorite in recent betting odds, with some reports suggesting a 60% to 80% chance of victory.
Burgas’s candidacy is bolstered by the modern Burgas Arena, its proximity to the airport, and the potential for a seaside-themed event along the Black Sea coast. Although rumors of internal disagreements between BNT and the government regarding the selection have circulated, BNT has denied any conflict, stating that the delay in announcement was due to the high quality of both competing bids requiring technical evaluation.
