Bulgaria's Eurovision 2027 host city selection intensifies as Sofia and Burgas vie, costs estimated at €50 million

The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Bulgaria after the 2026 win by Dara. The Bulgarian public broadcaster BNT has delayed the decision on the host city, with Sofia and Burgas remaining the two candidates under evaluation by an international panel.

Recent reports indicate a sharp rise in Burgas' chances, with betting odds climbing to around 30%, while Sofia's lead has slipped from about 92% to roughly 67%. Both cities have presented infrastructure and transport plans, and the government has pledged additional budget support.

Several countries, including Slovakia, Monaco, Andorra and Bosnia‑Herzegovina, have confirmed they will not take part in the 2027 contest. Former finance minister Georgi Klisurski estimated the total cost of hosting at about €50 million, to be shared among the state, the Sofia municipality and private sponsors, and highlighted expected economic benefits for the capital.
