Burgas hosts second Kalata Comedy and Laughter Festival

The second edition of the Kalata Comedy and Laughter Festival will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, from November 12 to 15. The event features theater performances and stand-up comedy across three venues: the Youth International Center in the Meden Rudnik complex, the NHK Cultural House, and the Adriana Budevska Drama Theatre.

This year's program places a specific emphasis on women in Bulgarian comedy. Featured productions include ‘Priatno mi e, Iva’ by Iva Todorova, ‘Zhensko tsarstvo’ starring Militsa Gladnishka, Snezhina Petrova, and Galya Petkova, and ‘Nay-loshto sledva’ by Elisaveta Belobradova. The festival also includes children's programming, such as Dimitar Todorov’s ‘Aladdin and the Magic Lamp,’ and a performance of ‘Step by Step’ by the Bulgarian Army Theatre.

The festival is held in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of actor Georgi Kaloyanchev and is funded by the Burgas Municipality. Creative director Nikolay Urumov aims to bridge traditional Bulgarian comedy with contemporary stage humor. All events at the festival are free to the public.
