Burgas lifeguards to remain on duty until September 16 amid dangerous sea conditions
Lifeguard services in Burgas will remain at full capacity through September 16 due to dangerous sea conditions and a recent rise in accidents. All 11 lifeguard posts, staffed by 22 guards, will operate daily from 09:00 to 18:30.
The Black Sea has seen high wave activity, with swells reaching levels of 3 to 4, leading to several incidents. Red flags have been deployed on beaches, restricting swimmers to knee-deep water. Despite these warnings, many vacationers have ignored instructions, resulting in injuries and fatalities in the region, including drowning incidents involving tourists in Pomorie, Ahtopol, and Sozopol.
In Varna, lifeguard presence will continue until September 30, though the number of guards will be reduced gradually starting in early September. In the Burgas region, state-provided security for eight unmanned beach strips will continue until September 15.
