Burgas selected to host Eurovision 2027
Burgas has been selected to host the 71st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2027. The grand final is scheduled for May 15 at the Arena Burgas. Local officials, including Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov and Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov, are planning to expand the event's impact beyond the main venue to promote the Black Sea region's culture and cuisine. Proposed satellite programs include activities at St. Anastasia Island and the fishing village of Chengene Skale.
The selection has prompted a response from Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, who requested feedback from Bulgarian National Television (BNT) regarding why Sofia's candidacy was not chosen. BNT has formally replied, stating that the selection process followed European Broadcasting Union (EBU) standards and that the decision was based on specific criteria evaluated during the bidding process. BNT noted that while the host city can contribute unique cultural ideas, the evaluation was conducted according to established international requirements.
