Burgas has been officially selected as the host city for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in May 2027. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) announced that the event will take place at the Arena Burgas, with semi-finals scheduled for May 11 and 13, and the grand final on May 15, 2027. This marks the first time Bulgaria will host the competition, following the victory of singer Dara in 2026.

While the selection has been celebrated, it has also sparked political debate. Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev has called for greater transparency regarding the selection criteria used to choose Burgas over the capital. To ensure the event has a national impact, BNT and the Ministry of Tourism plan to organize supporting cultural activities in other major cities, including Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna.

In response to the announcement, the Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP) has launched inspections in the Burgas region. The regulator is targeting potential price gouging and unfair commercial practices, specifically following reports of extreme accommodation prices, including an apartment rental offer reaching approximately 118,000 euros for a single week. The CCP warned that fines for such practices can reach up to 100,000 euros.
