Burgas prepares to host Eurovision 2027 with €20 million state funding

Bulgaria has initiated preparations to host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in Burgas in May 2027. The Bulgarian government has allocated approximately €20 million for the event, with €15 million designated as a mandatory financial guarantee and the remaining €5 million for immediate operational needs. Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov stated that the contest serves as a strategic opportunity to brand Bulgaria as a premier tourism destination.

Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov has committed municipal resources to the project, noting that staff have canceled annual vacations to ensure readiness. Preparations include infrastructure improvements, transport logistics, and upgrading the Arena Burgas. Local figures, including writer Nedyalko Yordanov and composer Stefan Diomov, have submitted proposals to improve urban spaces and public viewing areas to better welcome international guests.

Community engagement is already underway, with local schools incorporating Eurovision-related music into daily routines and students participating in promotional initiatives. Additionally, public discussions regarding a potential mascot for the event are occurring, with candidates including a flamingo, a capybara, and a seagull.
