Burgenland Energie opens first specialized E-charging station in Mattersburg
Burgenland Energie has opened the first specialized electric vehicle charging station in the Austrian state of Burgenland, located in Mattersburg. Unlike traditional charging points, this site is designed to mirror conventional gas stations, offering amenities such as a shop, sanitary facilities, and weather protection for cars, trucks, and buses.
The facility utilizes its own photovoltaic system and battery storage to provide electricity sourced from local wind and solar power at a stable fixed price. This project is part of a broader e-mobility strategy intended to establish a central charging station in every district of Burgenland.
Following the launch, the ARBÖ (Austrian Road Motorists' Association) has called for mandatory price transparency at all electric charging points. Citing the Mattersburg station as a model, the organization advocates for the installation of
