Burgenland opens immersive classroom at Alte Kino Mörbisch

The Alte Kino Mörbisch in Burgenland has launched ‘Staunino – Das immersive Klassenzimmer’, a new educational program designed for children and adolescents. The inaugural project, ‘Demokratino’, is aimed at students aged nine to twelve and was developed by author Thomas Brezina.

In the immersive experience, participants enter a fantasy land where they must make collective decisions alongside a character named Max to prevent a ruler named Diktatos from establishing a dictatorship. The goal is to allow children to experience the mechanics of democracy through active participation, voting, and problem-solving rather than passive observation.

Burgenland Governor Hans Peter Doskozil noted during the opening that visitors do not simply watch a screen but instead decide how the story progresses. While the venue currently hosts cinema and cabaret, it will serve as a permanent location for the immersive classroom starting in autumn 2026. School classes can visit the ‘Demokratino’ exhibit free of charge from October 22 until the end of 2026.
