Burger King implements remodel and menu updates to drive growth

Burger King is implementing a multi-year modernization plan to revitalize its brand and regain market share. The company recently overtook Wendy’s as the second-largest burger chain in the United States, a shift occurring as Wendy’s has faced several quarters of declining U.S. sales.

Key components of the comeback strategy include physical restaurant remodels and menu innovations. The company is currently working to remodel 400 U.S. locations, including a site in Portland, Oregon, to update interior and exterior aesthetics. Additionally, Burger King is focusing on family demographics by improving its chicken nugget recipe. Head chef Amy Alarcon noted that the new nuggets, made with 100% white-meat chicken and a new coating, were specifically designed to appeal to the 9-to-11-year-old demographic to influence family dining decisions.

Other strategic moves include the introduction of plant-based options, such as the Impossible meat WHOPPER, and efforts to improve customer engagement following an initiative by President Tom Curtis to solicit direct consumer feedback.
