Burger King outperforms McDonald's in Q2 2026 sales growth
Burger King has seen significant growth in the second quarter of 2026, with U.S. same-store sales rising 8.5%. This performance contrasts with McDonald's, which reported a 0.8% growth in the same category. Burger King's success is attributed to a turnaround strategy involving store remodeling and a focus on core products like the Whopper. Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Burger King, reported an earnings per share increase of more than 12% during this period.
In response to slower growth, McDonald's is implementing the ‘McDonald's > NEXT’ initiative. This four-pillar strategy aims to improve menu innovation, deepen customer engagement, increase location productivity, and enhance hospitality through new offerings such as hand-breaded chicken sandwiches and trendy beverages.
Regarding market sentiment, Argus has reaffirmed a ‘hold’ rating for Restaurant Brands International. Other analysts have provided varying outlooks, including a ‘buy’ rating from Seaport Research Partners with an $88.00 target price and an ‘outperform’ rating from Evercore.
