Burger King resumes expansion plans in Germany

Burger King announced it will restart its expansion in Germany after a pause caused by the COVID‑19 pandemic, high inflation and the Ukraine war. CEO Andreas Bork said “All signs point to growth” on the 50th anniversary of the chain’s first German outlet.

The fast‑food group now operates 760 restaurants across the country, most of them franchised, and recorded €1.3 billion in revenue last year, placing it second only to McDonald’s. It intends to fill “white spots” in cities and towns, though no specific target for new openings was disclosed.

Future growth will combine company‑owned and franchise sites and feature a broader menu options. About one‑quarter of Long Chicken burgers and one‑fifth of Whoppers are now served with plant‑based patties, and the chain is expanding its range of vegetarian products.
