Burger King sees sales surge following Whopper relaunch

Burger King is experiencing a significant turnaround under Restaurant Brands International’s ‘Reclaim the Flame’ initiative. In the second quarter, U.S. same-store sales grew by 8.5%, outperforming McDonald’s 2.5% growth and Wendy’s 6.5% decline during the same period.

A key driver of this growth is the relaunch of the Whopper, which has seen average unit volumes increase by over 20% since its February update. The menu overhaul, led by head chef Amy Alarcon—who previously developed the viral chicken sandwich at Popeyes—includes upgrades such as a premium brioche bun and creamier mayonnaise.

While Burger King’s performance has strengthened, Restaurant Brands International faces challenges with other brands. Tim Hortons reported only 0.1% same-store sales growth, marking its fourth consecutive quarter of deceleration, and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen saw a 5.2% decline in U.S. same-store sales.
