Burgfarrnbach: Man survives cardiac arrest during sports club activity

Willibald Zauper, a 73-year-old man, survived a sudden cardiac arrest during a sports session at the TSV 1895 Burgfarrnbach gym in March 2026. The incident occurred while Zauper was participating in walking football with his senior sports club.

Immediate life-saving measures were taken by club members, including a retired surgeon and a Red Cross member. These first responders performed chest compressions and utilized an automated external defibrillator (AED) located in the sports hall. The AED was used three times to address ventricular fibrillation.

Following the intervention, Zauper was transported by ambulance to the Klinikum Fürth for medical examination and treatment.
