Burgio and Siculiana Renew 30‑Year Twinning Pact in August Ceremony

On Sunday, 9 August, the towns of Burgio and Siculiana in Sicily will mark the renewal of their sister‑city agreement first signed thirty years ago. The event, called “L'Incontro delle Fedi – Burgio & Siculiana,” will begin with a solemn Mass at Burgio’s Mother Church at 4 a.m., followed by a procession to the Sanctuary of Rifesi, arriving around 9 a.m. for a second Mass. Organiser Mariangela Cusumano promoted the renewal, emphasizing the shared devotion to the Black Crucifix of Siculiana and the Crucifix of Rifesi as a historic and spiritual bond between the two communities. The day’s schedule includes early‑morning worship, a pilgrimage route, and a concluding Mass, inviting residents and pilgrims to participate in the celebration of faith and communal identity.
