Burglary and Car Arson at Westland Shopping Center, Anderlecht, Belgium

Police were called to the Westland Shopping Center in Anderlecht shortly after 01:50 on Wednesday night after alarms sounded in a jewellery shop and the underground car park. Investigators say three suspects broke into the jewellery store, stole a number of items and, while fleeing, set a vehicle on fire in the parking level‑1 area.

The blaze was extinguished by Brussels fire crews around 02:00, and the underground levels‑1 and ‑2 have been closed for ventilation and smoke removal. A judicial perimeter has been established around the shop and the car park, and the public prosecutor has opened an investigation. The shopping centre remains open, although a limited number of stores are temporarily closed while the inquiry continues.
