Burglary and homophobic assault reported in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil

In the Bela Vista neighborhood of São José do Rio Preto, a 39‑year‑old man broke into a residence, stole a computer, money and other items, and ate food from the fridge before attempting to flee via the roof. Neighbours chased him on foot, captured him and handed him over to the Military Police, which recovered some of the stolen goods.

In a separate incident at the Caic housing complex, a 29‑year‑old painter was arrested after a dispute with a same‑sex couple next door. He threatened the men with death, shouting phrases such as “um dos dois morreria naquele dia” and “vocês são vergonha de Deus,” smashed a window and attempted physical aggression. The police took him into custody on charges of homophobia, threats and attempted assault.
