Burgos heritage features medieval history and natural landscapes

The province of Burgos, Spain, offers diverse cultural and historical attractions, ranging from the natural landscapes of the Pasiegos valleys to medieval connections with Scandinavia.

In Espinosa de los Monteros, visitors can explore the green landscapes of Las Merindades, characterized by mountain roads and livestock culture. Key sites include the Torre de los Velasco and the natural pools of La Presa. The town's urban center is centered around the Plaza de Sancho García, featuring traditional mountain architecture with galleries and arcades.

In Covarrubias, a medieval town situated on the Arlanza River, a unique historical link exists with Norway. The town houses the tomb of Princess Kristina of Norway, daughter of King Haakon IV, who married Philip of Castile in 1258. Her remains are kept in the cloister of the Colegiata de San Cosme y San Damián. Additionally, the nearby San Olav hermitage, inaugurated in 2011, features a design inspired by a Viking drakkar to honor the patron saint of Norway.
