Burgos opens new pedestrian and cycling route to Cortes neighbourhood

Mayor Cristina Ayala of Burgos inaugurated a new pedestrian and cyclist pathway linking the Cortes neighbourhood to the city centre on Friday, alongside regional delegate Roberto Saiz and municipal officials. The project, costing just over €800,000, was primarily funded by the Junta de Castilla y León with a contribution of €650,000 and forms part of the city’s broader €60 million investment plan.

The roughly two‑kilometre corridor replaces one of two traffic lanes on the boulevard, adds 61 new streetlights, benches and a relocated bus stop, and creates a separated, protected route for walking and cycling. Ayala noted that this completes access for Cortes, leaving only the Villatoro neighbourhood awaiting a similar connection in the coming months.
