Burgos tourism highlights medieval Frías and river landscapes

The province of Burgos, Spain, offers diverse historical and natural attractions, ranging from the medieval town of Frías to the river landscapes of the Montes Obarenes-San Zadornil Natural Park.

Frías is a historic town situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Ebro valley. It holds the unique title of a city, a status granted by King Juan II in 1435. The town is characterized by its defensive urbanism, featuring stepped housing and narrow streets that adapt to the steep terrain of the La Muela hill.

In the northern part of the province, the Sobrón Reservoir provides a landscape often referred to as the “Burgos fjords.” Visitors can take silent, electric-solar boat tours from San Martín de Don through the canyon carved by the Ebro River. These tours allow for the observation of limestone cliffs, forests, and local wildlife, including griffon vultures and peregrine falcons.
