Burgua Bridge collapse halts transit between Táchira and Apure

The Burgua Bridge, located on the border between the Venezuelan states of Táchira and Apure, has collapsed following heavy rainfall in the Andean region. The Ministry of Transport confirmed the structural failure, which affected the bridge's foundations, and has announced an indefinite suspension of all vehicular traffic on the Local 1 highway.

The closure impacts regional connectivity and commercial dynamics. Local residents in areas such as El Nula have reported using improvised methods, such as canoes, to transport motorcycles across the river.

In response to the disruption, community members and the Táchira Cattlemen's Association (Asogata) have called for government intervention to address the transport of basic goods. Authorities stated that a comprehensive rehabilitation plan is required to restore mobility for both travelers and heavy transport, ensuring safe commerce between the border states.
