Burhanettin Duran criticizes digital platform neutrality
Turkish Communications Director Burhanettin Duran addressed the 12th TRT Future Communicators Competition, highlighting the transformative impact of generative artificial intelligence on the media landscape. While acknowledging the opportunities AI presents, Duran warned of significant risks including privacy violations, information pollution, algorithmic censorship, and disinformation.
Duran argued that digital platforms cannot be viewed as neutral entities, citing the visibility of content as a matter of justice and representation. He specifically referenced the situation in Palestine, including Gaza, as evidence that digital platforms do not maintain neutrality.
The Communications Directorate aims to build a fair and effective communication ecosystem as part of the “Century of Türkiye” vision. Priorities include enhancing digital and media literacy, strengthening social awareness against disinformation, and ensuring the digital sphere is safer for all users.
