Turkey hosts nationwide kite festivals for children's rights and Gaza solidarity
The Ministry of National Education has launched a nationwide project titled ‘Uçurtmalar Vurulmasın, Gökyüzü Çocuklara Kalsın!’ (Don’t Shoot the Kites, Let the Sky Belong to the Children!) across 81 provinces in Turkey. The initiative involves kite festivals designed to raise awareness for children's rights and to express solidarity with children in Gaza who are deprived of basic rights due to conflict.
In various cities including Ağrı, Sakarya, Çanakkale, and Burhaniye, students participated in marches and festivals, flying kites decorated with Turkish and Palestinian flags. These events aim to promote universal values such as peace, brotherhood, and justice, while highlighting themes like the right to play, the right to education, and the necessity of safety for all children.
Local officials and educators emphasized that the project serves to strengthen social awareness and humanitarian values among students, aligning with the ‘Turkey Century Maarif Model’ to foster socially responsible individuals.
